THE WEDDING OF
SARA & MEL #LOVEISLOVE
Sometimes you just happen to witness something truly special and you just have to take a step back and appreciate the beauty and significance of that moment. This happened a lot for me at the wedding of Sara and Mel.
These two had more difficulty than they should’ve to be able to get married. With same-sex marriage still not legal in Australia at the time of their wedding planning, Sara & Mel, along with their amazing and supportive friends and family, jumped across the Tasman to tie the knot in beautiful New Zealand.
As soon as we met, I knew we were going to have an absolute blast together – both Sara and Mel are infectiously sweet and so much fun, not to mention undeniably head over heels for each other. Their engagement story says it all for me…when Mel was surprised with a note from Sara, which read:
“Hopefully by now you are standing outside our door alone. Take a breath, take your time and don’t worry about the plans you thought we had, it’s all organised. From the moment I met you, I have imagined wondrous things for us. My hopes have always been high. Right from those very first seconds, my mind has run wild, captivated by the possibility of sharing life with you. Come inside; it’s all for you. Everything will always be for you.”
Their wedding was full of tears, laughter, the most beautiful vows and the best first dance I have ever seen!
We were also treated to an amazing surprise, with the girls gracing the cover of the latest Together Journal – the first same-sex couple to be featured on the cover of a mainstream wedding magazine. I could’ve died of excitement! I was so so SO lucky to be chosen to photograph their special day, it was truly such an honour and I’m so glad their love and their wedding is being recognised for the amazing celebration that it was, regardless of their sexuality.
I hope you enjoy a snippet of this wonderful day and make sure you give these guys some love because hey, love is love!
